  • Heavy rains are expected to hit southern and western India, the foothills of the Himalayas and the Deccan Plateau.
  • Extremely heavy falls are likely on the coast and southern interior of Karnataka.
  • Very heavy showers are possible over Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Konkan, Goa, North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahé.
  • Widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahé and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat region and Vidharbha.
  • Scattered showers with thunderstorms are likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, West Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal.
  • Shallow to moderate fog is possible in isolated parts of southern India in the morning.

Saturday (August 6)

  • Heavy rains are expected to hit southern and western India, the foothills of the Himalayas and the Deccan Plateau.
  • Very heavy falls over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal and southern interior Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
  • Widespread showers with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
  • Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, eastern Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat region, Vidharbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

The westerly winds from the Arabian Sea will bring heavy rain to southern India and western India for several days. The rains will peak on Friday with extremely heavy falls of 100mm over the coast and southern interior of Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough and multiple integrated cyclonic circulations will produce heavy rains along the foothills of the Himalayas, located at the northern end of the trough, and over the Decan Plateau and adjacent areas in parts south of the trough for several days.

Rains will increase in coverage over the central highlands and intensify towards the weekend as a cyclonic circulation off the coast of Odisha intensifies further.

As for mercury levels, maximum temperatures will be near or above normal over India during this projection period, well below normal over southern peninsular India through Friday and beginning of next week. Minimum temperatures will be slightly above normal over India during the period, while the western Himalayan region will experience significantly warmer than normal overnight lows.
