Top Gun: Maverick exploded onto cinema screens, becoming the most successful film of 2022. Not only that, but the film exploded into becoming the most successful Tom Cruise-directed feature film of all time, both domestically and internationally. . Now Sony has come up with a pretty weird theory as to why the movie was so popular. Sony co-presidents Sanford Panitch and Josh Greenstein say Sony is a big reason why Superior gun managed to be so popular. According to Panitch, “In a weird way, I’d say ‘Top Gun’ is taking advantage of our shot. ‘Venom’ is the start of that storyline that allows ‘Top Gun’ to do the kind of business it does. did. These things don’t happen overnight. It’s a seedling.”

To be fair, Panitch is right to say that Venom: let there be carnage was one of the first films to allow patrons to return to theaters in October 2021. The film earned a whopping $506 million at the global box office. If the first film was certainly more successful, Venom 2 still managed to raise quite a bit of money given that the world was still in the midst of the pandemic. They also published Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Spider-Man: No Coming Home shortly after. ghost hunters wasn’t as successful, as the movie only made $197 million, but we all know that Spider-Man: No Coming Home won a staggering $1.9 billion. This is why Sony believes Superior gun was a success.

people praised Superior gun 2 as the film that “reignited the box office”. Since there hadn’t been a lot of blockbuster movies in the past two years, for obvious reasons. However, Sony’s co-presidents believe that Venom 2 was the reason for the upsurge in people wanting to return to theaters. They claim that if they hadn’t fired during a difficult time in the world, then Top Gun 2 maybe didn’t make as much noise as it did. To be honest, Top Gun 2 is just a great movie. That’s probably why he makes a ton of money.

Top Gun: Maverick did something most sequel movies never do. He took chunks from the original film but made it fresh. There wasn’t a moment in the movie where it leaned into jokes or overused characters that just didn’t blend together like they used to. Even Val Kilmer’s small role felt meaningful and fitting. Maybe it’s the nostalgia talking, but it was so well written.

Top Gun: Maverick is in theaters now, and fans can check out one of the best Tom Cruise movies ever made. He received an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in the film, which is certainly justified. He was fantastic there, as is the rest of the cast. Cruise and Miles Teller reportedly talked about expanding the story even further. We may not agree with this, but the current sequel is special. Venom: let there be carnage was not nearly as good a sequel. Sorry Tom Hardy. However, the movie made a lot of money during the pandemic, and it still counts. So thank you Sony.
