Roland-Garros 2022: Will Nick Kyrgios play at Roland-Garros?

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios manages to draw a crowd wherever he plays.

The 27-year-old has had a checkered career so far and is yet to make it past the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam.

Kyrgios has shown plenty of potential over the past decade though, regularly taking him to top players on tour and still worth watching.

Will Nick Kyrgios play at Roland-Garros?

Kyrgios confirmed in April that he would not be playing at Roland Garros for the fifth consecutive year.

Despite playing on clay in Houston earlier in 2022, the Australian opted to skip the majority of the clay-court season in favor of returning to his native country.

Kyrgios hasn’t played at the French Open since 2017 but confirmed he will most likely be back in 2023.

“Next year I’m going to Paris. I’m announcing it now. I’m going to Roland-Garros,” Kyrgios said in April.

“I haven’t played this in four years so I’ll be back next year

“My girlfriend just wants to see Paris – so I will also play at Roland-Garros.

“We have already decided to go home (this year) and have this time. The time at home is crucial because the next trip is three months. This time at home is so precious… we are both very family oriented, so we have to make sure that circle stays tight.”

What is Nick Kyrgios’ record at Roland-Garros?

The French Open is currently Kyrgios’ least successful Grand Slam tournament.

Kyrgios has never made it past the third round in five attempts, winning five and losing five matches at Roland Garros so far.

Despite having a similar record at the US Open, the Australian has advanced to the third round on multiple occasions.

What happened the last time Nick Kyrgios played at Roland-Garros?

Australia’s last Roland-Garros race now dates back to 2017.

Entering the tournament as the 18th seed, Kyrgios defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets in the first round.

He then started his second round match against Kevin Anderson in good form before losing his temper and the match 5-7 6-4 6-1 6-2.

Kyrgios’ preparation for the French Open was rocked by the death of his grandfather and he admitted it left him in a bad position to compete.

“After my grandfather died, I just lost a lot of motivation to do anything, really,” Kyrgios said at the time.

“When I was back home, it was tough. I mean, I can’t talk about it. I can’t.

“But I haven’t really had a good practice in the last two weeks. Of course, I’m just trying to deal with some trouble.

“And obviously I haven’t really structured a good workout in the last five weeks.

“So I don’t think I was ready for the best-of-five set match, but he played well today. So he was too good.

How has Nick Kyrgios fared in 2022 so far?

After a lack of games in 2021, Kyrgios started the year ranked 137th in the world but climbed back into the top 100 after strong results.

Kyrgios advanced to the second round of the 2022 Australian Open and took on eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev.

The Aussie then headed to America where he made the Indian Wells quarter-finals and the Miami Open round of 16.

Kyrgios then played his one and only clay-court tournament of the year in Houston, advancing to the semi-finals before losing in straight sets to Reilly Opelka.
