Film: Red couldn’t switch Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Trainthe two-day opening weekend record that still stands at 3.3 billion yen but has been cleanly taken down JUJUTSU KAISEN 01.6 billion yen then second place record.
It should be noted that both Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train and JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 both opened on a Friday as One Piece Movie: Red open on a Saturday and the figures above do not include Friday opening day numbers or midnight previews. If you count these numbers, One Piece Movie: Redthe first weekend of falls to third place behind Train Mugenit is huge 4,623,117,450 yen ($43.8 million) and JUJUTSU KAISEN 02,694,128,150 yen ($23.54 million) opening.

On opening day, One Piece Movie: Red grossed over 1.2 billion yen (US$8.87 million), making it the third film in Japanese history to earn over 1 billion yen on opening day and equal with Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Trainit is first day in 2020. It is also only the second film in Japanese history (after demon slayer) TO DO 1 billion yen two days in a row.
To put into perspective how One Piece Movie: Red has done, it has already brought in nearly half of what One Piece Movie: A Strong World manufactured in 2009 and is about to dismantle One Piece Movie: Z as the highest-grossing film in the franchise at 6.87 billion yen, especially with Obon’s holiday coming and Film: Redit’s excellent word of mouth.
Toei, which distributes the film in Japan, claimed Saturday that they were aiming for the “highest-grossing start to the series”. They have largely achieved this goal!
One Piece Movie: Red opened in Japanese theaters on August 6. Crunchyroll, which will be release the film internationally across the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand this fall, describes the maritime musical adventure as such:
Uta, the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity during her performances, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly”. Now, for the very first time, Uta will reveal herself to the world in a live concert. As the room fills with all kinds of Uta fans – excited pirates, the navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who have simply come to enjoy his sonic performance – the voice the whole world has been waiting for. is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.
The A play TV anime is also still going strong, with over 1,000 episodes of the series streaming right here on Crunchyroll, with new episodes dropping as they air in Japan.
