One Piece Chapter 1056 officially wraps up the Wano arc by ironing out all the details and introducing the Straw Hat Pirates’ next destination.
The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1056, “Cross Guild”, by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.
Chapter 1055 of A play showed Momonosuke strengthening his resolve and facing off against Navy Admiral Ryokugyu (Aramaki), who had assumed an all-wooden body. The new Shogun’s bravery allowed him to execute an attack that strongly resembled Kaido’s breath blast. Despite being continuously beaten by the Navy Admiral, Momo refused to let Yamato fight, believing that Wano must be able to hold his own against the evil forces. Momo was eventually able to force Aramaki back into his human form, and just as the Admiral was about to re-engage with the young dragon, Shanks intervened, accompanied by his powerful Supreme King Haki. While all of this was going on, Sukiyaki revealed Old Wano’s existence to Law and Robin.
Chapter 1056 begins by showing the Shinobu and Raizo dried up as the other members of the Nine Red Scabbards tend to them. While updating with Wano’s current situation, Kin’emon reports on his wife’s well-being. He also shares with the others their project of living together in the country’s capital. Carrot also makes an appearance after being summoned by Dogstorm. Dogstorm and Cat Viper declare the Mink Rabbit to be the next ruler of Mokomo Dukedom. They reveal their intention to stay in Wano and remain Mononosuke’s vassals, while acknowledging the young mink’s growth after traveling with the Straw Hat Pirates.
Carrot doubts her abilities to replace the two, knowing that there are Minks much more powerful than her. However, the Three Musketeers of Dogstorm and Wanda are quick to trust him, while promising to protect Zou for their new leader. Their reason is that Pedro’s will is the strongest in her. The transfer of titles and responsibilities ends with Dogstorm officially handing over the country to the younger generation. Meanwhile, Sukiyaki also reveals his identity to Momonosuke and Hiyori.
Both Momo and Hiyori are happy to learn that one of their relatives is alive, while the Red Scabbards – except for Kin’emon – turn out to already be aware of the tengu’s true identity. Sukiyaki offers to share everything he knows, but after that he asks to be allowed to live among ordinary people as an anonymous person. On the Straw Hats’ side, Robin tells his teammate about his discovery – Pluto being hidden in Wano. His revelation shocks Franky the most, since, as noted by Luffy, he has already burned his plans.
Hearing about the ancient weapons, an attractive ninja accompanied by Otama appears. She introduces herself as Shinobu, immediately attracting Sanji’s attention and admiration. Otama also tells the Straw Hat that he is Shinobu’s apprentice. She also asks Luffy about the possibility of becoming strong enough to be part of his crew the next time they meet, which the latter accepts as long as the girl can use ninjutsu by then. The underground Caribou listening to them, after learning where Pluto is, decides to tell a certain person about his findings.
A few days later, Momonosuke makes his rounds around Wano, overseeing construction and repairs. He then seeks out Zoro to teach him some sword fighting skills, only to find that all of the Straw Hats are missing. While checking on his sister, he learns that they have already left the country after saying goodbye to everyone except him and Kin’emon.
In Tokage Port, Luffy, Kid and Law officially end their alliance and decide to go their separate ways. They argue over which Log Pose needle to follow, especially since Luffy and Kid chose the middle one pointing east. Law easily chooses the northeast destination because it means advancing as far as possible, while not allowing the possibility of mocking and calling the other two captains of the children. Luffy and Kid decide by drawing straws, which eventually results in the Straw Hats moving southeast. Ever since he lost, Luffy has pettily relished being one of the Four Emperors.
Even though Luffy’s remark irritates Kid, the latter admits to being more annoyed by the fact that Buggy also holds the same title. The next panel shows Buggy’s Cross Guild poster, which not only shows Buggy but also Crocodile and Mihawk, shocking both Luffy and Zoro. With these men working under Buggy, Law agrees that the jester indeed has a right to be called the Emperor of the Sea. Even so, Luffy can’t believe how it got to such a point, noting that Buggy is an idiot. .
Kid explains that while they’re busy waging a war with Kaido and his pirate crew, a lot has changed in the outside world. The Buggy’s Cross guild turned the tables and began putting bounties on the navy, causing the navy to fear that civilians would assassinate them. With that, the three conclude their discussion. Kid asks the two for more complaints about their respective classes. He also warns that once they all leave Wano Territory, they will also join in the fight to the death like the others in the outside world.
But before they part ways, Law first lays a copy of the Road Poneglyph in front of Kid’s team. Since Kid did his fair share during the battle, Law notes that he’s as entitled as them. Kid recognizes it as an item similar to what they got from one of Big Mom’s generals, and Killer adds that they have to put all their might into it if they want to participate in the all-out war against the titular One Piece. . Kid understands Killer’s statement as finding the so-called “Man with the Burn Scar”, someone Luffy has no knowledge of.
Back in the Flower Capital, Momonosuke and Kin’emon continue to search for their friends. They search for Yamato, who surprisingly answers from the top of the castle. She claims to have finally made her decision. She will go to the Straw Hats and join them, eventually deciding to live the same way Kozuki Oden did.
The next chapter of One Piece will be available on Sunday, August 21.
