3 | Sustainability Report 2023
An interview with Yves Padrines, CEO
Mr. Padrins, how would you summarize the year 2022 in terms of sustainability – globally, for the construction industry and for Nemetschek Group?
Yves Padrins: Our world is changing and global trends such as climate change, digitalisation, urbanisation, globalization and demographic change involve both opportunities and risks for our planet and all the species that inhabit it. Let’s take the construction industry as an example. It is currently one of the largest consumers of global resources, but in the future, it could make a major contribution to reducing the global CO2 footprint. It has the power to make human life more worthwhile. At Nemetschek we have always seen sustainability as a big opportunity, because digitalization
An important key to making the industry as a whole, but particularly the construction industry in which we operate, is more sustainable. With our digital solutions, buildings and infrastructure can be designed, constructed and operated more resource-efficiently – and thus more sustainably.
Like many other companies, Nemetschek Group is also facing increasing sustainability regulations. How do you deal with these?
Yves Padrins: First, the Nemetshek Group and I personally support a strong focus on sustainability. This is the only way forward. In particular, the implementation of the EU Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a big challenge for us as well as other companies, but it provides very important specific disclosure requirements and guidelines and will definitely lead to more transparency in sustainability. For us, CSRD means we continue to do what we choose

4 | Sustainability Report 2023
The path to sustainability, however, has to show more of what we are currently doing and what we plan to do in the near future. It will be a challenge, but these challenges bring a lot of opportunities. By more closely linking economic, environmental and social aspects in corporate reporting and also, for example, when managing opportunities and risks, new and valuable perspectives on strategy processes will emerge.
How would you describe your current exposures compared to what you will need from 2024?
Yves Padrins: I would say we are on a very good track. We have already been conducting a material analysis every two years since 2017, identifying sustainability issues that have a significant impact on our company, but also those through which we as a company impact the environment, our stakeholders and society in general. . We then deal with these issues in our daily business. For example, I believe our compliance framework, which includes a whistleblowing procedure, a code of conduct for employees and a code of conduct for suppliers, is industry leading. In addition, last year we published our sustainability report in line with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative and also implemented the provisions of the EU taxonomy regulation in the company. Still, we are on a challenging journey to implement CSRD requirements.
Where is still room for improvement?
Yves Padrins: In this Sustainability Report for 2022, we will publish the Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions of our carbon footprint for the Nemetschek Group for the first time. We intend to expand this to include Scope 3 emissions
By 2023. Based on these statistics, we will subsequently develop our climate journey and goals. Our sustainability governance framework is currently set in a rather simple way and will be expanded to meet the new regulations and requirements of our stakeholders in 2023.
What role does the software portfolio play in your sustainability concept?
Yves Padrins: In sustaining we basically take two roles-
lity: On the one hand, our company and the way we do business are an industry role model, and on the other, we are an enabler for our customers.
Our software solutions help them plan, construct, operate and manage buildings more efficiently and more sustainably. For the year under review, we evaluated both the construction industry and our portfolio from a sustainability perspective and confirmed the results: Nemetschek Group is both a role model and an enabler.
What is its real meaning?
Yves Padrins: When it comes to sustainability, we make a difference
Two approaches to saving harmful greenhouse gases: We want to improve the “handprint” of our customers through our solutions, as buildings can be designed, constructed and operated more efficiently and sustainably through the use of digital technology. In addition, we want to reduce our own footprint, that is, our own CO2 emissions. Carbon management is our first step in being aware of the impact we have as a company on society and the environment. To reduce our own environmental footprint, we decided to go one step further and calculate the group’s CO2 emissions. Then we will
Use this as a basis for determining next steps and then take them consistently.
Why is your role as an enabler so important in the construction industry?
Yves Padrins: Our solutions can have a major impact on industry sustainability through specific features and/or partnerships that help our customers design, build and operate more sustainably. This is what we call the “handprint” of our customers; That is, what they do with our solutions and what impact our solutions have on the life cycle of the building and what savings can be achieved with our solutions. Our mission is to help our customers create a more sustainable world.
