Men’s tennis freshman punches entry for Wimbledon boys final

LONDON — Michael Zheng (Montville, NJ), entering Columbia Men’s Tennis, will compete in the 2022 Wimbledon Boys Singles Championship title match at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

The National No. 4 rookie qualified for a Court One showdown by beating Spaniard Martin Landaluce 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

Zheng will face third-seeded Croatian Mili Poljicak on Sunday, July 10. Details regarding the start time and live video stream are yet to come.

The 2021 NJ.com Male Tennis Player of the Year won the 2021 New Jersey State High School Singles Tournament, defeating fellow incoming Lion Nicolas Kotzen (Short Hills, NJ) in straight sets. On the junior circuit, Zheng boasts a 46-17 record highlighted by a perfect 11-0 result against five-star rookies.

Columbia’s recruiting class of 2022 ranks second nationally. Blue chips Zheng and Kotzen are joined by blue chips Sachin Palta of Forest Hills, NY.
