Following a series of leaks earlier this week, an anime adaptation of the manga Kaiju No 8 has now been officially confirmed in a new trailer.
While anime-only fans continue to watch their favorite shows on the small screen, millions of manga readers around the world are still patiently waiting for their favorite series to be adapted for television.
One of the greatest (figuratively and literally) ongoing manga in the world is Kaiju #8, a monstrous series that tells the story of Kafka Hibino, a young man who gains the ability to transform into a destructive creature of the town.
This week new rumors of an anime adaptation of Kaiju #8 had been stomping around the internet and yesterday proved to be correct as the anime series was officially confirmed by Toho Animations.
Kaiju No 8 Anime Adaptation Officially Announced
Yesterday August 4, it was finally confirmed that an anime adaptation of the manga series Kaiju No 8 was in development.
Toho Animations shared the first PV trailer for the upcoming anime production with the caption, “Naoya Matsumoto’s popular ‘Kaiju No. 8’ comic, which is serialized in Jump+, has finally been made into an anime. !”
“With the announcement of the anime adaptation, the original anime title logo is also available. ends with a sense of respect and monster fighting spirit.” – Kaiju No 8 announcement, via Comic Natalie.
However, that’s where the announcement ended – no information was shared regarding the production team or the targeted release window.
While news of the adaptation is welcome, it’s by no means a surprise to see the hit manga turned into a TV series as earlier this week rumors of an anime adaptation of the manga series Kaiju No 8 by Naoya Matsumoto had circulated like wildfire online.
AniNewsAndFactsa popular and generally reputable Twitter page, had posted that “Naoya Matsumoto’s “Kaiju No 8” is getting an anime adaptation. Toho Animations Production, Studio will be announced soon.

The Twitter post stated that “Kaiju No. 8” (Kaijuu 8-gou), a sci-fi horror manga created by Matsumoto, Naoya is getting an anime adaptation and will be produced by TOHO Animation. The post also stated that Toho would be the series producer, not the animation studio that would actually be working on creating a TV adaptation, which turned out to be correct with the new trailer.
AnimeJapan 2022s Twitter The famed page conducted a poll asking fans which original manga series they’d like to see animated earlier this year, with Kaiju #8 ranked as the 10th.e most anticipated production.
Various theories about the potential anime studio have already started popping up online, with popular YouTuber ForneverWorld commenting on how the perception of an anime adaptation will change depending on the prowess of certain factors such as story and visuals:

A monstrous manga series that deserves a top adaptation
Kaiju manga series #8 began serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ magazine in July 2020 and at the time of writing has released seven volumes in Japan.
The series has enjoyed widespread success both in Japan and with fans around the world, frequently appearing on various “best manga of the year” lists.
In fact, Kaiju #8 ranked among the top 10 manga of 2021 in School Library Journal, ranked third for male readers in 2022 in Kono Manga ga Sugoi, and second in National Library Employee Recommended Comics of 2022.
At the end of December 2020, the series reportedly exceeded 30 million views, rising to 70 million in February 2021 and over 100 million views in April of the same year.
As of March 2022, there are said to be over 6.7 million copies in circulation, with the series selling 22,041 copies in France in its first week – manufacturing it is the first best-selling manga in the history of France. In July 2022, this number has would have reached approximately 7.8 million copies.
How to read the original manga series in English
While Kaiju #8 received seven full manga volumes in Japan, the English release lags behind; only three volumes have been released so far, with volume 4 set to launch in October 2022.
